08 Jan Napa Winery Visit: Opus One
I was fortunate enough to experience a private tour of Opus One winery in Napa. For those of you familiar with the wine world, you will know that Opus One is one of the premiere American wines and one of the only that can compete with the top Bordeaux wines.
It was surprisingly chilly in California and I wanted to be appropriately dressed for the occasion and weather. I ended up wearing a black romper dress and white sweater top, which I think was just the right balance between casual and dressy for a nice winery tour.
As for the actual tour itself, we started off with a glass of Overture in the grand salon before taking a tour of the amazing and very modern winery itself. The winery has invested heavily in modern equipment that enable them to produce in a traditional way.
Opus One only produces 25,000 bottles a year to keep up quality standards. Their vineyard is divided in 140 sections and each section is individually harvested depending on when the batch ripens. They are then made into wine and then blended to create the perfect blend of Opus One.
If you have the chance, I highly recommend you go and visit! And if you can’t, try to get your hands on a bottle of Opus One or Overture, which is made from the grapes that don’t quite make it into Opus One production but still EXCELLENT.
