16 Feb NYFW Highlights & Trends
This past week has been such a whirlwind with NYFW and travel. The NYC area got hit by a huge storm at the end of last week and as a result, my flight was canceled and the earliest one I could get would get me in Friday night. To make it back in time for some weekend NYFW events (as well as other commitments I had), I flew into Philadelphia and drove from the airport back to Brooklyn Friday afternoon!
Anyhow, I wanted to share with you some highlights from NYFW.
Milané Noir Presentation
Milané Noir had its launch event last Friday and I have to say I’m a fan. The collection was inspired by Cuba and featured feminine silhouettes with sophisticated yet sensual lines. Brandon and Melanie are the founders and I loved that they not only shared how their love story (which began in 2014 by the way) was part of the inspiration behind the brand, but they also got engaged at the event!
Oxford Fashion Studio
I work for a very large fashion brand and while our styles are always on trend, they’re also very mass. That’s why I always love watching emerging designers showcases–these designers are always that much more willing to take a risk and make a statement. A few notable trends I picked up here include sleepwear inspired outerwear, retro bikinis, and ankle socks with old school heels.
VERDAD, a LA based label by designer Louis Verdad, had its first NYFW presentation at Pier 59 on Sunday. The collection felt very NYC meets downtown LA, featuring pieces with sharp tailoring mixed with others to create effortless layering. I saw plenty of sheer blouses and long knits, along with oversized sweaters and skinny trousers.
